(The original Chester FC was founded in 1885 and joined the Football League in 1931/32. They added “City” to their name to their name in 1983. Following relegation to the Conference in 2009, the club hit financial difficulties, which led to the season starting with a 25-point deduction, due to the failure of the club to agree an adequate CVA prior to the start of the season. Following a difficult season, in which the club struggled through a variety of financial and playing difficulties, Chester City were finally wound up on 10th March 2010.
However, a group called City Fans United (CFU) began preparations in February 2010, just weeks before Chester City FC were wound up, to form a "phoenix club" for the following season, and Chester FC was formed.The new club received the support of Cheshire West and Chester Council, which granted the lease of the Deva Stadium (subsequently renamed the Exacta Stadium as part of a sponsorship arrangement), Chester City's former ground, to Chester FC in May 2010). A month prior to this visit to the ground, they gained their second successive promotion, after a late goal from Matty McGinn at home to 2nd placed Northwich Victoria gave the club a 1.1 draw -and the point they needed for promotion. They finished the season with 100 points, and 102 goals, conceding only 29)
